Tetou’s Return
When I found out that Tetou had reopened, I was immediately transported back several years. Back then, the institution stood proudly on Avenue des Frères Roustan in Golfe-Juan. We’d go there almost as if on a pilgrimage. Sometimes we had to plan our budget in advance, since the restaurant only accepted cash payments back then. But once we were seated, practically right on the water’s edge, everything else faded into the background.
I can still picture that bouillabaisse, prepared with rare precision: a rich broth, a generous helping of rouille, carefully selected fish… A recipe that has become, for me, one of my fondest culinary memories of the Mediterranean. During the Cannes Film Festival, actors, directors, and producers were happy to leave the hustle and bustle of the Croisette behind to come here in search of a bit of authenticity. Tetou was one of those restaurants where people came as much for the food as for the atmosphere.
Today, it is precisely in Cannes that the restaurant is being reborn. I won’t deny that I would have preferred to revisit this spot in its original setting. But if I have to cross the Croisette to relive that feeling, I’ll do it without hesitation. Now there’s just one question left: will this bouillabaisse capture the magic of my memories? And how will it measure up against the legendary versions at Chez Michel in Marseille or Chez Camille in Ramatuelle? Memories sometimes make the food taste even better. It’s time to find out if this one still stands up to the test of the present.
