Michelin Leaves French-Speaking Switzerland Wanting More
Eleven new entries, 92 distinguished establishments nationwide, and one glaring omission. Ahead of its ceremony on November 2, 2026, in Andermatt, Michelin has unveiled its new Bib Gourmands, an award that recognizes restaurants offering good value for money. Ten are located in German-speaking Switzerland. One is in Ticino. As for French-speaking Switzerland, it will have to wait…
A Sense of Forgetfulness
In Zurich, three restaurants have been added to the selection, including Soi 28 by Heilemann. In Celerina, Moses Ceylan’s Ya Mama is praised for its Levantine cuisine. That’s great news for these restaurants and their teams, whose accolades deserve to be celebrated. But this glaring gap in the western part of the country is starting to get on people’s nerves.
In its press release, Michelin emphasizes a “balanced geographic distribution” and assures that its inspectors cover all regions of Switzerland. This approach reportedly applies to the entire selection. However, this new promotion tells a completely different story. Not a single new entry in Geneva, nor in the cantons of Vaud, Valais, Neuchâtel, Fribourg, or the Jura.
Should we conclude, then, that no other restaurant in French-speaking Switzerland is worth visiting for a good meal at reasonable prices? Given the region’s richness and vitality, this omission is hard to understand. French-speaking Switzerland has restaurants, talent, and character. It also deserves for Michelin to provide us with more evidence of its visits to these restaurants. On November 2 in Andermatt, will the stars set the record straight or confirm this impression of neglect?
