A “slice” at RORI

August transforms Paris. Tourists take over the city, Parisians head out of town, and the pace slows down. It was in this atmosphere that I walked through the doors of RORI.

In a city as bustling as Paris, sometimes all you need to do is slow down… especially in the middle of August. Tourists take over the City of Light, much to my delight. I let myself go with the flow—all I have to do is step off the main thoroughfares, take one street instead of another, and let chance take its course.

A Somewhat Serendipitous Discovery

That’s exactly how I ended up at RORI. It wasn’t planned. Well, actually, it was—a little! You know me by now. And often, it’s these kinds of (semi-chance) discoveries that leave the fondest memories. From the very first moment, everything feels just right. A smile, a kind word, a thoughtful gesture. You know right away that you’re in for a good time.

The restaurant has its own unique atmosphere, a far cry from the classic image of a pizzeria. An R&B playlist sets the mood, the cocktails are expertly crafted, and the wine list—deliberately short—is thoughtfully curated. But of course, the main reason to visit RORI is to enjoy a slice of pizza.

Check the boxes

We grab a pencil and check off the boxes as if filling out an order form. The first pizza wins us over with its simplicity: a homemade white crust, fior di latte, a few strips of lemon zest… The crust is thin, crispy, and slightly caramelized at the edges. It’s a great start that immediately puts us at ease. Next comes the specialty pizza. Green sauce, mozzarella, zucchini, ricotta, and very thin slices of smoked beef. An original, perfectly balanced combination where the green flavors take center stage without veering into “healthy pizza” territory.

And then there’s the pepperoni. Even more generously loaded, with a slightly thicker crust, but just as crispy as ever. The mozzarella melts beneath crispy, spicy salami, enhanced by a spiced honey that subtly rounds out the flavor. We set off again from the11th arrondissement, happy and in high spirits, and once again let the city guide us toward new adventures. Who knows where chance will take us next? …
