Clément Sommier, sommelier at Berthaudin
It’s a “sleeping beauty”, as Clémemt Sommier likes to say of the house. Berthaudina Geneva institution soon to celebrate its 90th anniversary. We owe the rebirth of this wine house to the owners, who not only had the desire and the vision, but also knew how to surround themselves with talent, like Clément Sommier, a young 27-year-old sommelier, passionate about wine and competitions, who hails from the beautiful Burgundy region.
His family didn’t drink wine at home, but the expertise was passed down from father to son. His father, Meilleur Ouvrier de France in sommellerie, opened his eyes to the world of French excellence and to the rich and varied terroir of his region. After experiencing the demands of the Georges Blanc group alongside his business studies, Clément Sommier gradually drew closer to vineyards and wine through his encounters and visits to estates.
Twice a semi-finalist in the competition for France’s Best Young Sommelier, he reached second place in the Best Sommelier de France competition in 2024. His boundless quest for knowledge and his curiosity drive him towards new discoveries that he particularly enjoys, such as the wines of Lanzarote or Alsace. In short, Clément Sommier is a talent well worth following!
