Mayrig under the eye of Guillaume Cottancin
It’s a novelty… trust me, I’ll be going there soon. But in the meantime, Guillaume Cottancin’s photo will help us wait. For the photo of the week, he plays the emissary with his best cameras and takes us to Mayriga new Armenian restaurant on Rue Caroline in Acacias. After Beirut, Hammana, Riyadh, Yerevan, the Maldives and Cairo, it’s Geneva’s turn. For Guillaume, the challenge of this session is to bring out the spirit of the place while adding a personal touch likely to appeal to Geneva’s clientele.
Guillaume presents us with the famous spinach mantis, Armenian ravioli topped with a spicy sauce, yoghurt and several other condiments. The choice of this dish is explained by the photographer’s propensity for incorporating gestural images into his shots. His photo immortalizes all the action and movements involved in serving and assembling the dishes in front of the customer. “It’s a dish that needs to be put into action by showing the concept of sharing and indulgence, while adding the gesture of setting the table. It has to be both descriptive and elegant.
