Thierry Marx, or Gastronomy for Dogs
On Monday, September 28, the guests gathered in the main courtyard of the Carnavalet Museum in Paris were four-legged. The event was organized by Bab’in, a French pet food brand, Thierry Marx had organized a dinner for 39 dogs, accompanied by their owners. With white tablecloths, candlesticks, and dishes served under glass domes, the evening embodied the traditions of a fine dining experience.
Guinness World Records
On the menu: poultry, basmati rice, and carrots, presented with a floral garnish. A meal intended for animals, but staged in a way clearly designed to attract human attention as well. The event aimed to earn a place in the Guinness World Records.
This dinner is part of the collaboration between Thierry Marx and Bab’in, which markets products bearing his name. The brand also announced a donation equivalent to 10,000 meals to Solidarité Peuple Animal to support animals in need. Combining commercial promotion, a culinary spectacle, and support for a nonprofit, this dog-themed dinner brings together very different elements. Personally, it’s the chef’s role in this initiative that leaves me perplexed. Seeing Thierry Marx lend his talent and his name to such a spectacle is somewhat disconcerting.
