Sven Wassmer Turns the Page in Bad Ragaz
The announcement was made on Friday, September 4. Sven Wassmer will spend his final season at the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz this winter. In February 2027, Chef Sven Wassmer and his wife, Amanda Wassmer-Bulgin, will bring to a close an adventure that began in 2019 and has, over the years, become one of Switzerland’s most acclaimed restaurants.
Family Reorientation
This closure is the result of a joint decision by the Wassmer Family Group and the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz. Moreover, it will not affect only the Memories restaurant: Verve by Sven, which holds one Michelin star, will also be closing. For its part, the hotel now wishes to shift its culinary offerings toward an experience more focused on wellness and health. This decision has, of course, not gone unnoticed. Closing a three-star restaurant while it is at the peak of its success is rare enough to warrant mention.
But for Sven and Amanda Wassmer-Bulgin, this decision is also—and perhaps above all—a family decision. The couple now wants to devote more time to their two sons and take the necessary step back before thinking about what comes next. Since their youngest son is autistic, they explain that their journey has profoundly changed their perspective on their priorities and on what they now hope to build.
That doesn’t mean he’s thinking about retirement, though. Sven Wassmer even says he plans to close this chapter with even greater ambition than when he first started. At the same time, the Wassmer Family Group will continue to expand its consulting services in the restaurant and hospitality industries, both in Switzerland and internationally. Until then, there are still a few months left to experience Memories one last time. All existing reservations will be honored, and both restaurants will continue to operate as usual until their final service in February 2027. A chapter is thus coming to a close in Bad Ragaz. The next one, however, has yet to be written.
