Axel Caubet releases his first vintages
Making wine was “a childhood dream.” A dream that came true thanks to Yves Kohli of the Domaine des Groubeaux in Corsier, who took on Axel Caubet, the founder of Pompette, under his wing and encouraged him to go back to school to earn, in two years at Marcelin, a CFC in viticulture.
It’s been 10 years already
This collaboration gave rise to a line of four wines produced at the estate. But these are not wines from a distributor to which Pompette simply lent her name. Axel Caubet was deeply involved in the entire process—from the vineyard to the bottle—participating in every stage of their production.
Among these vintages is a 100% Pinot Noir, vinified with the utmost care to preserve as much of the fruit and the grape variety’s characteristics as possible. After more than ten years in the wine business, the desire was precisely to go beyond simply buying and selling bottles. Through this collaboration, Pompette also aims to meet growing demand from its customers by offering more wines from Geneva, rather than automatically turning to imported wines. Above all, it’s a way to make the transition from the retail business to the vineyard.
