In Malbuisson, on the shores of Lake Saint-Point and just one hour from Lausanne, the Michelin-starred chef is opening La Maison des Cimes. A new gourmet destination nestled between the Jura Mountains, the forest, and a wood-burning fire, just a stone’s throw from Switzerland.

After twelve years in Paris, Matthias Marc has decided to return home. But this return to his native Doubs should also be of interest to Swiss food lovers: the chef is setting up shop in Malbuisson, on the shores of Lake Saint-Point, just one hour from Lausanne and not far from the Jura Mountains and Lake Neuchâtel.

The former Top Chef semifinalist, who earned a Michelin star at the restaurant Substance, is opening La Maison des Cimes on August 29. The project is a collaboration with his wife, Hanna Marc—an interior designer and hostess—as well as chef Sylvain Courivaud and Eulalie Mariton, who is in charge of the dining experience and wines.

Contemporary Retreat

Together, they envisioned a contemporary retreat deeply rooted in the Haut-Doubs region, consisting of a hotel with nine rooms and suites, as well as two restaurants. At La Table des Cimes, Matthias Marc will serve gourmet cuisine inspired by the forest, freshwater fish, game, wild herbs, and local produce. Wood-fired cooking will be the common thread, echoing his family’s history spanning six generations of foresters.

With a more laid-back vibe, the Bistrot des Bûcherons will open in November, offering hearty, flame-grilled dishes and a genuine inn-like atmosphere. After spending many years bringing the Jura to life on his Parisian plates, Matthias Marc now invites his guests to experience it firsthand. A getaway that, from French-speaking Switzerland, has never seemed so close.
