Carbone lands in London
It’s one of the most eagerly awaited openings in the English capital (at least within the Mayfair microcosm). The restaurant Carbone will soon open its doors in the heart of London’s chic district. Its rivals (the elegant Cecconi’s and the classic Cipriani) have been warned: a new establishment touting the merits of overpriced Italian cuisine is arriving in this ultra-coveted area for restaurant groups. Located on the corner of the recently opened The Chancery (read our news here), Carbone promises to shake up the English-Italian establishment. Heading up the group (yes, it’s a group at this stage) is Mario Carbone – a kid who grew up in Queens and cut his teeth at Mario Batali and Daniel Boulud. Alongside partners Jeff Zalaznick and Rich Torrisi, their post-New York spin-off is sure to appeal to a hand-picked demographic with little regard for the final bill. While we wait to discover this new restaurant on our next trip across the Channel, London continues more than ever to create a buzz with major openings.
