Replacing the former American Embassy in Grosvenor Square, The Chancery promises to be the new address in the heart of Mayfair.

This is surely THE hotel news of the autumn season… at least as far as the English capital is concerned. In place of the American Embassy (a sort of grayish blockhouse at odds with Mayfair’s Victorian surroundings), the hotel The Chancery by the Rosewood chain, has just opened its doors after a reported £1 billion Pharaonic renovation. Yes, you read that right! With its 144 rooms and suites, the building looks great, while retaining its concrete Cold War style. The architect behind the project is none other than Sir David Chipperfield, a renowned designer who has also (re)brought to life the Neues Museum in Berlin, the Royal Academy in London and the Bryant Park Hotel in New York. In addition to its Eagle-bar on the top floor, The Chancery offers a brasserie called Serra, an all-day deli and a replica (the first European opening for the group) of the famous Italian restaurant Carbone. An additional space is available, and the wildest rumors are circulating about its future tenant. Now you know everything…
