On the eve of its 4th year of existence, Refettorio Geneva reminds us that food is a right, not a privilege. In its kitchens, solidarity goes hand in hand with civic action, even taking the issue of the right to food to the European level.

The year 2026 opens at Refettorio Geneva with determination. True to its mission, the establishment remains the only place in Geneva to offer a hot, dignified meal every evening to those who need it most, without condition or distinction. After a year marked by administrative obstacles, Refettorio is preparing to celebrate four years of existence. Four years of demonstrating that solidarity has nothing to do with misery, that good food is not a privilege, and that hospitality, when taken seriously, becomes an engaging and committed act. Supported by the commitment of over 300 volunteers, Refettorio continues to affirm that a meal is never just a meal, but a statement. The kitchen is also the birthplace of the European citizens’ initiative Good Food For All Europe, which campaigns for the right to food to be enshrined in law. Thanks to the support of its community, 14,000 suppers have already been served to people in need.
