The brand-new Greek restaurant Khora, on the corner of rue François-Versonnex and rue du Jeu-de-l’Arc in Geneva, is usually fully booked at lunchtime. Today, a skylight illuminates a room devoid of customers. Like most of its colleagues, the team of cooks is eager to get back into the kitchen. And right now, under the leadership of chef Konstantinos Kamperis, the brigade is working hard for a noble cause: the distribution of free meals to students. Immersion in solidarity!
With stints with such gastronomic greats as Gordon Ramsey, Markus Wareing and Joël Robuchon, needless to say, Konstantinos Kamperis’ résumé is well-stocked. It all began in Greece, with a first experience in Athens at the Hotel de Grande Bretagne. Then Konstantinos left his homeland and arrived in Geneva over fifteen years ago, where he combined experience in haute gastronomy, grand hotel cuisine and catering. He will set down his knives at the Khora restaurant in August 2019, and will be in charge of the first menus when it opens in September. “The arrival of Covid-10 broke our momentum. When you think about it, we still haven’t had a full, stable year since the inauguration,” says the chef.

Operation VOLUNTEER
To keep himself busy during this period of uncertainty, the chef is a regular member of the cooks’ collective and takes part in Chef Walter El Nagar’s solidarity movement in favor of the underprivileged. These seemingly simple gestures make all the difference. Since Monday March 1, the Shelter group and its teams have been offering free meals to students in the Cité de Calvin.
Packages and meals are offered every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday directly from the restaurant, between 5:00 and 7:00 pm. In partnership with the University of Geneva, a capacity of 300 parcels and 300 meals can be distributed. How do I get involved? Register directly withUNIGE the day before the distribution. “We currently have over 200 students signed up. Unfortunately, the current situation means that some of them don’t have enough to eat, which is why our initiative is so important. Even if we all hope that this situation will come to an end as soon as possible, such an initiative is to be applauded and highlighted. Thank you and bravo!
