Café de la Paix: Always a Success!
Bistro & Wine Bar
Philippe Durandeau welcomes guests as if they were at home. On this particular evening, he swaps his immaculate white kitchen jacket for an impeccably pressed shirt. Without missing a beat, and with undisguised pleasure, he presents the back room of his restaurant transformed into a wine bar. A line-up of bottles of all kinds and checkered tablecloths give the place an even more bistro-like feel.
Aficionados of generous, gourmet cuisine can rest assured that the former chef of La Réserve has lost none of his superb character. The establishment retains its cachet thanks to its well-appointed retro decor, and remains an ideal place for a romantic rendezvous as well as a business lunch or a moment with friends.
Waldensian sausage
The menu focuses on gourmet pleasures and sharing, and reflects the bistro spirit. It’s hard not to succumb to the snacked Vaud sausage with its creamy polenta and fine julienne of crunchy red cabbage. An appetizer that hits the spot and goes straight to the heart, awakening patriotic feelings. Over the years, calamari has become a must-try dish, demonstrating the talent of a chef with a chef’s hat on.
As for the main course, you’re spoilt for choice between a saddle of venison, a black code with miso or a Charolais beef pot-au-feu to share. The veal chop with its homemade mashed potato remains disconcertingly classic, while the Iberian pig secreto (shoulder) with salsify and parsnips is the ultimate winter treat.
The Word of Hunger
There’s no need to prevaricate: the Café de la Paix remains a sure bet in Geneva’s bistro scene. The pleasure remains intact… as long as it lasts!
