Celebrity chef Tommy Byrne, Gilles Dupont's famous partner at the Auberge du Lion d'Or in Cologny, recently joined the constellation of Michelin-starred chefs.

In Cologny, they formed an inseparable, unflappable duo. The regulars called them “Dupont & Byrne”, like the Duke Ellington & John Coltrane of the ovens who lifted the the Auberge du Lion d’Or to the pinnacle of Geneva gastronomy. Tommy Byrne, a Dublin native with a passion for music, arrived at Geneva’s Intercontinental after a stint in the kitchens of a hotel of the same group in London. He was awarded a Michelin star. He met Gilles Dupont (then chef of the Hôtel du Rhône) and it was love at first sight. The duo first lit the flame in the stoves of the Auberge du Lion d’Or in 1996, and remained in the heights of Geneva for over 25 years. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends, with a special thought for his lifelong friend Gilles Dupont.
