Paolo Basso, president of the sommeliers

At the Annual General Meeting held in Lucerne on Sunday May 4, 2025, Paolo Basso was unanimously elected National President of the Swiss Association of Professional Sommeliers (ASSP). He succeeds the recently deceased Piero Tenca, to whom he pays tribute for his exemplary dedication to the Swiss and international sommellerie. Best Sommelier in Switzerland (1997), Europe (2010) and the world (2013), Paolo Basso is a leading figure in the world of sommellerie. After more than twenty-five years’ experience in gourmet catering and sommelier consulting, he founded his own wine production brand in Ticino. “The ASSP must become a strong, visible and recognized player at the service of our profession and our territory. My mission will be to create the conditions for every member, every region, every partner to find their place in this dynamic”, declared Paolo Basso on his election.
