Mikaël Grou, sommelier at the Michelin-starred Le Chat-Botté restaurant in Geneva's Hôtel Beau-Rivage, has just been named Switzerland's Best Sommelier 2025.

Discreet and humble to the end of the decanter, the head sommelier of the Beau-Rivage Beau-Rivage is now in the spotlight after winning the title of Switzerland’s Best Sommelier 2025. A title he richly deserved after demonstrating flawless expertise against his three rivals, Jenifer Badino, Tony Lécuroux, and Domenico Quatela in the technical and creative rounds of the final. His performance also won over the audience, who had the opportunity to vote for their favorite candidate. For this 2025 edition, Paolo Basso, President of the jury and Best Sommelier of Switzerland 1997, Best Sommelier of Europe 2010 and Best Sommelier of the World 2013, has set up a multidisciplinary jury, to reflect the diversity of skills that a sommelier of today must master. “A modern sommelier must not only possess cutting-edge oenological expertise, but also know how to communicate eloquently, offer impeccable service and compose a menu in line with the current needs of restaurant customers,” explains Paolo Basso. Congratulations, Mikaël, and see you soon for new wine adventures.
