A death that saddens the entire wine world: Châteauneuf-du-Pape loses one of its most singular voices, that of Emmanuel Reynaud, absolute master of Château Rayas.

Sad news from Châteauneuf-du-Pape: Emmanuel Reynaud, legendary winemaker and owner of Château RayasChâteau de Fonsalette and Château des Tours has passed away. With him has gone a singular voice in the wine world, a craftsman inhabited by the land and the vines, whose sensibility shaped some of the most moving wines of their time. Having had the privilege of tasting these rare flasks, it’s impossible to remain indifferent in the face of such a miracle of finesse and depth. The pope of Grenache and Syrah, Emmanuel Reynaud leaves an absolutely unique spiritual and gustatory legacy, one that the wine world, now in mourning, will continue to celebrate. “He always sought simplicity and tranquility; his family remained his greatest treasure, despite his worldwide fame,” says Christian Siegenthaler, founder of the wine company Millésimewhich imports the estate’s wines into Switzerland. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends.
