A Billion to Revitalize Cambridge House

Cambridge House is about to write a new chapter in its history. This 18th-century Georgian mansion, once the residence of the Duke of Cambridge and later the headquarters of the Naval and Military Club, will become, as of February 1, 2027, the first British hotel in theAuberge Collection.

The project is one of the centerpieces of the Piccadilly Estate regeneration, led by the Reuben brothers at a cost of one billion pounds. To breathe new life into this Mayfair address, Jean-Louis Deniot designed the hotel’s public spaces and guest rooms, while Laura Gonzalez is responsible for the bar, the wellness areas, and the future private club. Marble, gilding, and grand staircases will create a dialogue between historic splendor and contemporary glamour.

However, it’s the ground floor that foodies should keep an eye on. Named Major’s, the restaurant will be operated by Major Food Group, the New York-based team behind Carbone and Torrisi. Housed in the former ballroom, this American chophouse will blend its style with that of a traditional London grill. It promises generous seafood platters, caviar service, and a selection of British meats, fish, and game. A jasmine-lined courtyard will extend the dining experience outdoors, while the menu will feature ten variations of the Martini—a nod to Ian Fleming, who was once a regular at the venue.

With rooms starting at 1,250 pounds a night, Cambridge House makes no secret of its ambitions. Neither does London.
