La Baguette d’Or, for lovers of Chinese cuisine
Push open the door, leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind and let your senses awaken. The spicy, bewitching aromas of Sichuan greet you at once. Since 2013, Lijuan Ryan Morf has been at the helm of the house. Alongside him, chef Liang Yongbo, originally from Chongqing, offers a generous and refined menu, a vibrant tribute to his native land.

A strikingly sweet and savory
The journey begins gently with hors d’oeuvres. Our choice is the honey-lacquered ribs: three perfectly mastered pieces of meat, tender and stringy, topped with a caramelized sauce that leaves a crunchy sweetness on the palate. A subtle starter that elegantly announces the rest of the meal.
Under the expert guidance of the team in the dining room, we discover a traditional cold tea, Wanglaoji. Fresh and sweet, it proves to be an invaluable ally in the face of the spicy dishes that follow, for here is one of the house specialties: spicy crispy beef. A generous plate of meat, bean sprouts and spring onions, spiced up with a spicy sauce that tickles the palate. Fragrant rice and iced tea sweeten the spicy fire, for an intense yet deeply comforting experience.

Sichuan at the heart of the plate
Then there are the emblematic dishes of Sichuan: a vegetarian version of mapo tofu, silky and fragrant, followed by xiang guo fei chang, a specialty based on pork intestines, rare on our Geneva tables. But it’s the Triple Harmonie that stands out as a revelation: a surprising blend of marinated tripe, chuck and beef tongue, served with cold noodles in sesame sauce. A bold, strikingly authentic dish that transports us straight to the bustling streets of Chongqing.
Our journey comes to a gentle close with a Vietnamese coffee and an ice cream doughnut, a sweet final note that contrasts with the intensity of the previous dishes. In Geneva, La Baguette d’Or is much more than just an Asian restaurant, it’s a place that tells a story. With its family atmosphere, expertise and commitment to authentic Sichuan cuisine, this restaurant has established itself as a benchmark in Geneva. We leave the place satiated, but already ready to return to continue the journey.
