In the heart of Meyrin's Ecoquartier des Vergers, Café Hortus has been the new playground of Thierry Berland, former chef of Café de la Paix, for the past two years.

In a Parisian bistro setting, with hints of green and gold, there’s nothing like an amuse-bouche to whet the appetite, with tomato, stracciatella, fried onions, basil leaves and balsamic pearls. A gentle starter before plunging into the chef’s world…

Let’s start the meal with a classic of French cuisine: pâté en croûte. On the plate, a nice slice served with mustard seed pickles. With masterful cooking and seasoning, the chef sets the standard right from the start. At the heart of the slice, mushrooms and foie gras add roundness to the meat’s full-bodied flavors.

Classics revisited with panache

Let’s continue with the “pavé de maigre à la plancha” with sage gnocchi and a vodka sauce. The crispy skin and tender flesh of this fish reveal its excellent cooking. Accompanying the dish are ultra-melting gnocchi topped with a spicy sauce. A committed dish that surprises at first bite, but is appreciated as the meal progresses.

A moment of surprise with an original dessert menu featuring surprising titles such as avocado-banana crème brûlée or citrus-coffee tart. But our choice fell on a less atypical dish: candied pear with white chocolate mousse and pistachio ice cream. A sweet blend of authentic flavors to round off this dinner.

Le Café Hortus welcomes you, Monday to Friday, in a friendly and jovial atmosphere. The varied and original menu, renewed every lunchtime, as well as a dish of the day, prove once again just how talented Thierry Berland is.
