Bar Marius… the carefree life!

With Marion Le Pen in the dining room and Antoine Paulin in the kitchen, the Marius wine bar offers a free and uninhibited philosophy of dining. Dishes to share, unadulterated bottles and freedom for guests.

It’s good to sit on the terrace of the bar Marius (and inside too). We’re still enjoying those carefree evenings when the mild weather allows us to extend the night. Sometimes we meet up with acquaintances and make new acquaintances. There’s a nice dose of lightness in this wine bar known to regulars as well as to passing guests eager to meet up in a protective environment. From this point of view, the word “lightness” is by no means synonymous with ease or banality, quite the contrary. Rather, it’s synonymous with a kind of carefree attitude that hangs over the establishment, with a small menu of dishes to share and a charming natural wine list. So let’s keep it carefree.

Brochette on binchotan

The daily suggestions are written on a slate hanging inside the bar. A former butcher’s shop from another era and a confidential bar run for many years by the inimitable Rénald Kocher (when will the anthology pot-au-feu return), the interior has charm and cachet. While chef Antoine Paulin roasts lamb kebabs on his mini binchotan, Marion serves us a glass of Sicilian white wine and a drop of Gamaret from the canton of Bern. We’re lucky enough to be able to taste them, and we’re seduced by the young sommelier’s suggestions.

Open Monday to Friday and closed Saturday/Sunday, Marius offers a great weekly alternative that goes beyond the boundaries of its neighborhood. While a tasty focaccia topped with crushed hard-boiled eggs mixed with mayonnaise and Cantabrian anchovies nourishes the body as much as the spirit, we let ourselves be carried away by the relaxed atmosphere of the outdoor evening. As night falls, strings of lights shine like a ginguette decoration. Yes, let’s be carefree.

Contagious carelessness

The octopus carpaccio with Espelette pepper olive oil delivers iodized, marine flavors, while the grilled Padron pimientos are a delight to nibble with your fingers. And even if we skip the cheese platter and the queso and black sesame tarta, we’re still lulled by the gentle night air. Just for one evening, the Marius bar helps us maintain a healthy dose of optimism. It’s up to us to play along and redistribute this happiness in turn once we’ve gone our separate ways. In the end, let’s not lack for carefree spirit, and let’s make sure it becomes contagious!
