Dewald Coetsee, the Chaumière sommelier
Originally from Cape Town in South Africa, Dewald Coetsee grew up near Stellenbosch, a town known for its wine-growing region. He chose to work in the wine world and trained at Domaine Delaire Graff. Little by little, he progressed to the position of restaurant manager, before discovering his passion for the sommelier profession when a job vacancy arose.
In 2021, COVID stopped the planet, but he decided to return to Geneva for sentimental reasons. In just a few months, he learned French, and his passion for wine, which he shares so well, enabled him to work as assistant sommelier at Domaine de Châteauvieux, then at Le Chat Botté, before taking up the position of head sommelier at La Chaumière.
