In October, bakeries, confectioners, multinationals and Migros are joining forces in the fight against breast cancer by offering caracs covered in pink icing.

With 250 bakeries taking part, the campaign aims to raise public awareness of a disease that affects one in eight women in Switzerland. “I’m very happy to see so many committed partners, united for the same cause”, says Mélanie Tanner, founder of the carac rose. She has set herself the target of selling over 100,000 pink caracs this year. “It would be an important milestone and a symbolic figure”, she says. This would enable 50,000 francs to be donated to seven associations or foundations that support women diagnosed with breast cancer. Migros has also decided to support “Le carac rose” by offering these pastries in its stores in French-speaking Switzerland. Migros’ involvement represents a significant step forward this year, bringing increased visibility to the prevention campaign and furthering the fight against breast cancer.

In addition, some companies (e.g. Nestlé, QoQa or EHL) are getting involved and supporting the initiative by offering pink caracs in their company restaurants, while others (e.g. Incyte, Zenith Watches, Audemars Piguet, Banque Bonhôte) are sourcing from partner bakeries. These employers aim to raise awareness among their staff by relaying the message of the “Palpate your breasts for your own good” prevention campaign, and to encourage them to self-palpate regularly and not neglect medical check-ups.
