This is the story of Axel Patatoukidis, a young enthusiast who realized his dream by opening his restaurant Gyros. As a child, visiting his Greek family in the village of Porto Rafti, he bit into his first gyros with his father. It was a taste that would stay with him for the rest of his life. Fascinated by these typical sandwiches, Axel became a regular at the Souvlaki fan restaurant in Geneva. When the restaurant closed in 2016, he said to himself: “It’s time to take up the torch and share my passion”. After a few years perfecting his recipe, Axel set up shop on Sundays in a butcher’s shop in Eaux-Vives, and for three years took his first steps at the Paléo Festival under the name “Le Grec”, then under the name “Gyros” from 2024.
In 2024, this child of Onex seized an opportunity in his town and opened his first Gyros Shop with his partner Romain Kohn. His pork spit, assembled every morning on site, is the result of years of testing to recapture the taste of his childhood. Served in Greek pita bread, the meat is accompanied by homemade tzatziki, tomatoes and red onions. All topped with double-cooked home fries. Gyros, more than just a place, is the must-try Greek sandwich that appeals to gourmets in Onex and beyond.
