One of the hidden treasures of the Eaux-Vives district lies opposite Attar restaurant, chef Nasser Jeffane’s first establishment on the spice route from Morocco to India. Opened by the chef at the end of last year, this concept presents a new formula inspired by Mahlaba, typical Moroccan snacks. Open from breakfast to the end of the day, Beldi offers Moroccan specialties, including Moroccan pastries, daily specials, the famous mint tea and a couscous served every Friday lunchtime. We were tempted this lunchtime by the mechoui sandwich made every day. The lamb shoulder, the sandwich’s main ingredient, is marinated in the chef’s secret blend of 24 spices, then roasted in the oven for many hours, for a meltingly addictive result. The sandwich is then topped with a homemade white zaatar sauce, onion compote, tomato confit, harissa mayonnaise and cumin-flavored pommes allumettes. Whether it’s Moroccan tea, tagine or this delicious sandwich, be sure to discover Beldi’s hidden treasures.
